Willem’s one request for the whole time we were in Paris was a trip up the Eiffel Tower. Now, many years ago I had actually walked up the Eiffel Tower, to the first viewing platform, but Willem was having none of that. He wanted to travel in style – he wanted to go up in the lift. Now, a trip up the Eiffel Tower is a worthwhile experience, but there are few things you need to know.
- The line for tickets to go up the Eiffel Tower is LONG
- Even if you bought your tickets in advance, the line to get through security and on to the lift is LONG
- Once you are in to the lift area, the line to actually get in a lift is LONG
- And when you make it up to the second level, if you are going up to the Summit (another lift), the line is, you guessed it, LONG
The thing is, these lines may be long, but obviously not too long – the resident six year old not only said he was happy to wait in the line to get tickets, he actually talked me in to it despite me continually saying ‘but you will have to wait aaaagggees, it’s going to take forever‘. And he did not complain. Not once. Not even when we were waiting for the lift to the summit and the wind was howling. Actually he thought it was all pretty cool. (Yes, he’s hamming it up, but you get the idea.) The appeal of the Eiffel Tower is not just the fact that you get to be on the Parisian icon, but the big deal is the views. They are pretty awesome.
